BEARS IN THE NIGHT
Now l'll tell you the story of a bear family who live in a tree.
Every evening, the mother puts her seven little children to bed and kisses them goodnïght and closes the door, and goes downstairs. They usually go to sleep immediately because the woods around are very quiet at night.
But tonight it's different. They can't sleep. There's a strange noise out there. It goes "Wooo". What is it? In bed, the seven bears listen. Teddy, the oldest of ail seven, is very brave, and decides to go and see. His six little brothers and sisters watoh him as he oreeps out of bed and tiptoes to the window. yïou know, they mustn 't make a noise when they 're in bed because Mamma is downstairs).
Teddy opens the window. But he can't see anything because it's ail dark out there. So he takes a light and climbs out of the window down the tree.
One after the other, his six little brothers creep out of bed, tiptoe to the window, olimb out, and follow him down the tree.
"Woooo..." goes the noise again. They stop and listen again.- What IS it? "Let's go, and see!" says Teddy.
And they climb over the garden wall and walk silently under the bridge, around the lake, until they get to the rocks. As they pass between the rocks, here goes the "Wooooo... " again. It 's louder this time. "It cornes from up there," Teddy says. "Corne on!" And off they go through the woods and up the hill. Up and up they go until they get to the top. It is very darkk. So Teddy lifts the light and ...
Two big round yellow eyes are looking at him. "WOOOOOO!" says the owl!
"HELP!" cry the seven bears. ,^—
They dash back home in a panic, down the hill, through the woods, between the rocks, around the lake, under the bridge, they jump over the garden wall and climb up the tree and through the window and straight into bed.
What a fright! How nice it is to be in bed again!
